Mods Narrogin – Upper Great Southern Hockey Carnival

Narrogin 2019

We are getting excited about 2019 Narrogin Carnival!

It is a very social, fun hockey weekend that is a highlight of every season.  Last year we had more than 200 Moddies at the carnival and hoping to beat this in 2019.

The carnival will be held from Friday the 19th to Sunday the 21st of July (last weekend of the July school holidays).  As usual there is a lot to do before we go to Narrogin and we are eager to get started.

The competition is open to Yr 4 – Yr 10 players and they will get to play a round robin of games over the weekend.  Competition teams are:

  • Years 4,5 & 6
  • Years 7/8
  • Years 9/10 (mixed)

It’s a fantastic weekend away – for kids and parents.

Important Information

Please register as soon as possible. Registration is open for a limited time. If you wish to be guaranteed a place please register ASAP!

What to do Now

Read all the information about the weekend on the Mods website here:  Narrogin Information

This year we are registering through Try Booking
It is important that all persons attending (players and non-players) are registered for catering and accommodation purposes.

You will be charged when you register at $40 per player and $20 per non-playing attendee.  This covers player registration, the cost of the Marque shelter along with breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday.   Please register even if you are attending but not staying with the club so we can cater for you over the weekend.

A separate invoice will be issued from the club for accommodation once allocated.

Bringing a Friend – Players from other Clubs

In previous years we have also enjoyed the company of players from other clubs, who joined Mods for the Narrogin weekend. If your child would like to bring along a friend who is an experienced hockey player to participate in the Carnival, they are more than welcome, just get them to fill in the registration form.

What do you need to know about the Narrogin Carnival Weekend?

The Narrogin Carnival is held at the Football Oval, Racecourse & Recreation Centre in Clayton Street Narrogin (click here for map of the venue).

It is played over 2 days – Saturday and Sunday, and each team will play somewhere between 6 – 9 games over the weekend.

Mods will organise accommodation and most of your food for the weekend. You will need to bring your own bedding (i.e. sleeping bag) and linen, plus dinner for Friday and Saturday nights.

To help you budget for the weekend accommodation will cost around $100 per person however this does vary by location as some venues provide a catered service which we need to on-charge for.  Your registration above includes hot breakfasts, lunches and as many hot drinks and cups of hearty soup as you need for all day Saturday and Sunday.  Children under 4 are free.

It will be cold and probably wet over the weekend so wet weather and warm clothing will be required.

We stay at various venues in Narrogin to accommodate our vast numbers:

  • Dryandra
  • Narrogin Residential College
  • Orana Girl Guides Camp

We try to keep the teams together as much as possible so that your child can hang out with their team mates.

You are not obliged to stay with the team and are welcome to organise your own accommodation.

Once we finalise the numbers for the competition we will let you know where you are staying and what you need to bring with you.

Getting There

Narrogin is about a 2 ½ hour drive from Perth via Albany Hwy & Williams or Brookton & Great Southern Highway.

Most people arrive between 3 – 6 pm on the Friday. Driving in the dark can have hazards with the local wildlife. The roads out to Dryandra & Orana are dark – so preference is for first timers to leave by 3pm at the latest.

Detailed directions to each location will be provided in your accommodation email which will be sent prior to the July School Holidays.

At the Carnival

At the sports grounds we will set up our own special Mods campsite where we have marques and cook site set up. If it is wet we will be able to keep dry!

Each year Mods organises breakfast, lunch, continuous coffee, tea and hot chocolate for the weekend at a nominal cost. This is a fabulous set up and we manage to keep our players and families warm, dry and fed during the day.

Food provided by Mods at the sports ground will include hot breakfast, morning tea, lunch and hot drinks throughout the day.

The success of the weekend will depend on our troop of volunteers. We particularly need coaches, umpires and managers for each team over the weekend.

All parents will be required to volunteer in some capacity over the weekend. On the registration form, please indicate what you will be willing to volunteer for. The categories are:

  • Coaches
  • Managers
  • Umpires
  • Set up at Carnival campsite
  • Catering at Carnival campsite
  • Pack up at Carnival campsite

Each team will be allocated a timeslot of roughly 2 hours over the weekend during which they will need to provide the catering crew. There are other vital roles to fulfill over the weekend also.

Narrogin is an amazing weekend of sport, friendship, community and camaraderie.

It is enormous amount of fun for young and old. We hope you can join us.

Registration is via try booking

It will be open from 13 June – 30 June unless all places fill prior.

Registrations are taken on a strict first-in-best-dressed basis.

Accommodation will be allocated after closure of registrations. When you register you will receive an email which confirms that your details have been received and are in our system. After closure of Registration, our team will go through a process to allocate teams and individuals to accommodation. This process is completed during the week prior to the July School Holidays.

You will receive an email with confirmation of all accommodation details immediately prior to the commencement of the holidays.

If you have any questions which are not answered by the information on this page please email the team at and we will do the best we can to assist.
