News Flash: Rush Hockey is Here!

Rush Hockey is a fantastic and fun introduction to hockey – it’s great for families, kids, experienced players and those who’ve never played but want to see what the fuss is about.

Essentially it’s small-team hockey on a small pitch with a bigger ball and simplified rules.

It’s fresh at Mods in 2019 – Last two Thursdays 7th and 14th March we will be at
Warwick Hockey Turf 6-7pm

Here’s all you need to know…

2019 Registration Fees

Modernians strive to keep its fees as low as possible, this year Hockey Australia (HA) has increased their player insurance levy, this payment will need to be paid directly to HA.

Again this year, the Junior Committee has made a regular booking at the turf at Warwick Hockey Centre (Whitfords Hockey Club). This will be on Thursday afternoons from 6-7pm. Turf training sessions will be rotated through different age groups, and all grades will receive more turf training time than in previous years. Turf training costs money, which has been reflected in the Registration fees.. the benefit of more turf training time will greatly benefit the development of our players and club.

This year, Hockey Australia have introduced a higher player levy for each junior registration ($30 per player). This charge is paid direct to HA as stated above.

The umpire levy we introduced last year, has been incorporated into this years fees. All junior teams will benefit from not having to worry about finding umpires and finding money to pay umpires every game.

If you have any difficulty in paying the fees, please do not hesitate to contact our Treasurer to come up with a payment plan

Training sessions will begin on Thursday 21st March for J3/4 and upwards at Charles Veryard Reserve.
J3/4, J5/6 and J7/8 – 4:30-5:30pm
J9/10 and J11/12 – 5:30-6:30pm

Please come prepared with a mouthguard, stick, shin pads, water bottle. All coaches will be recognisable, wearing a Mods shirt with COACH on the back.

TURF: The Junior Committee has made a regular booking at the Warwick Hockey Centre (Whitfords Hockey Club) for Turf training from 6:00-7:00pm.  This will be on a roster based system – watch out for emails with details.

Team Costs

Throughout the season, there are additional costs that need to be covered by each team, they may include:
– Turf fees, these will be set at $10 per player for each game your team plays on turf. It is important to collect this money prior to the game, to pay the venue.
– Umpiring fees each week. If your team is not able to provide its own umpire eg. parent/older sibling there will be a small charge.
– Coaches and managers gift/s for the end of season
Please provide these funds in a timely manner to your manager when requested.

Club Colour Clashes

When we are second named on the card and we play against teams with the same colour shirts or socks as us, it is our responsibility to wear our alternate strip. At junior level our alternative strip is yellow socks.

A list of the various club colours is available here so you can check to see if there is likely to be a clash.

J3/4’s is an interclub competition, all games are played Saturday mornings at Perry Lakes Reserve at 8.30, 9.30 or 10.30am. You will need to be at the ground 30 minutes before your game for a warm up and coach talk.
Hockey players will need their Mods t-shirt, blue socks, shorts and appropriate foot wear. Hockey sticks, mouth guards, shin pads, water bottles and heaps of enthusiasm are needed for each game!  All our club coaches are volunteers and have “Working With Children” cards. A team coach and manager from the parent group is required for each team.
Teams will be selected the week before the first game. These teams will NOT be chosen on ability alone, but also peer and school groupings where possible. On game day parents will be asked to provide oranges in a rostered system.
A few times a year there is dinner after training, which is a highlight for the kids. Dinners are allocated to a group to organise, and the J3/4 parents are responsible for one dinner during the season.
