The Constitution – Special Meeting

Modernians Junior ClubNews

There have been recent changes to the Associations Incorporation Act 2015, under which our Club is regulated.  As a result we need to review our Rules (Constitution) to ensure they comply with the new regulations.

Your Committee has worked to prepare proposed new Rules that we think, are not only compliant, but also align with the essence of what makes Modernians Hockey Club the outstanding club that it is today and sets us up for a strong future.

We need you, our Members, to attend a Special General Meeting to consider and if thought appropriate, resolve to adopt the new Rules.

When: Monday 27 May 2019 at 7.30pm

Where: Clubrooms at Charles Veryard Reserve

Whilst not intending to stifle any necessary discussion, it is expected that the meeting will not go for long and if this is the case, immediately following, both the Junior and Senior Committees will proceed into their regular meetings, which you are invited to attend if you wish.

For your contemplation, please see attached:

A. Proposed new Rules in draft

C. Explanatory document that compares Proposed Rules with Existing Rules and provides some commentary.

B. Existing Rules (lodged 1986)

Note that possibly the key difference is the proposed creation of a ‘Parent Member’ class with voting rights.  This gives parents/guardians of children under 16 the opportunity to represent the interests of their child with one vote per family, with children 16 and over entitled to their own vote.  This proposed change reflects the philosophy and demographic of our Club.  It also provides the opportunity for older children to be involved and informed in how our Club operates – as is reflected in the current Rules.

If this raises any queries, comments, concerns (or all this makes no sense whatsoever!) I would highly encourage you to contact me to discuss before the meeting if possible.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 27 May at 7.30pm – yes as well as being lovely to catch up, we also need a quorum! 🙂

Thanks and regards
